"American Dream" is a song by Casting Crowns off their debut eponymous album. The band made their first music video to this song. It is the only video from their debut album and only their first of four overall. Although it was not released as a single, it still received decent airplay on Christian radio.
American Dream's lyrics are based around the Biblical parable of building a house upon the sand.
The song tells the story of a man named Jack who disregards his family in his attempts to make their life better for them. He works late hours, went to work on the weekends, and his family never saw him. The song talks about how his world began to crumble, because he failed to realize that all his family wanted was to have him around.
On 2005, the song was nominated for a Dove Award for Rock Recorded Song of the Year at the 36th GMA Dove Awards.[1]
